Massapequa Celtics BU17 team began their 2013/2014 college showcase schedule by participating in the Massapequa soccer clubs premier elite rated tournament showcase, which is the top rated showcase in the northeast by coming in first playing undefeated soccer throughout the weekend. Highlight was beating Ramapo, last years NY cup finalist 2-0.
It was then off to Disney Christmas week to play in the top showcase event in the country. The Celtics went 3 and 1 coming in third place, highlighted by wins against two of the best teams from Pennsylvania and Georgia and a third place win against the number 1 team in Delaware 4-1.
It was then off to phoenix Arizona presidents day weekend to play in the top tournament in the West Coast.
The Celtics won 2 lost 1 and tied one taking third place.
The squads travel plans were interrupted by a snow storm delaying their arrival to phoenix by a day and a half. Leaving on the red eye out of New York on Friday the squad arrived in Arizona at 5:15am Saturday morning scheduled for a 1:30pm game against Colorado rush Nike which is an all star team.
Playing in 95 degree heat and little sleep the squad was victorious, winning the game 1-0.
The squad lost and tied their next two games leading to the third place game against the number 1 team in Arizona, regional champions, national participants , and the 10th best team in the nation. Kickoff was 12 noon and it was 100 degrees. In an unbelievable display of ball control, fitness, and desire the Celtics were victorious 1-0 gaining one of their best results ever.
Next up was the Jefferson cup in Virginia march 8-9, another top rated premier elite college showcase where over 300 teams are denied entrance. Not only were the Celtics accepted to participate, they came in second place in their 10 team bracket, not losing a game and finishing with a dominating 2-0 victory against Florida.
This afternoon we were able to watch the Celtics beat the national champions, the Smithtown Arsenal 3-0 at John Burns park in Massapequa.
