Another year in the books for the 100 mile bicycle ride from AFTLI, our facility in Massapequa, to the Montauk Point Lighthouse.
This year the group was smaller than previous years, with only 3 dedicated riders. Owner, Jim Schepp and long time friend and client, Joe Lerner, both completed the ride for their 5th consecutive year. Ed Stephenson, also a long time friend and client, completed his 4th Massapequa to Montauk ride. All three men are considered veterans to the ride and were the top 3 finishers on last years ride, which consisted of 7 riders.
Having a smaller group this year wasn’t going to stop these guys! Due to injuries and other elements, none of the riders were able to put the same amount of training into the ride as they did in the past. The AFTLI family has witnessed Jim over the past few months run around from doctor to doctor trying to get ready for this ride. Acupuncture, massage therapy, chiropractors… you name it. Jim Schepp said in a text message “I had 6 doctors apts a wk for the last 4 months to get me through the 1st 90 & my family got me through the rest!” When Jim needed it the most at mile 90 with only 10 more to go, his wife and three kids met up with him at “The Overlook”, which is the top of the highest hill on the way to the lighthouse. Once they met up with him they continued to follow along side of him for the rest of the ride cheering him on.
CONGRATS JIM, JOE & ED!!!
